Beginning my master’s degree journey with my first two classes in the ADL program has been a roller coaster of emotions. As I wrap up these initial courses and reflect on my contribution to my learning, I am thinking about the challenges and successes along the way. I enrolled in this program to expand my own knowledge. I love that I’m learning so much technically, but that it’s pushing me to grow in other personal ways as well. I would not have had the same experience and growth without my “ADL collaboration crew,” as we named ourselves, or the support of my instructor and fellow classmates.
The scores I am giving myself for these classes are as follows:
EDLD 5303 – 91/100
EDLD 5305 – 46/50
EDLD 5303 Key Contributions
I determined the final score for the EDLD 5303 course by considering all of my personal efforts as I built my ePortfolio from scratch over the last eight weeks, as well as the collaboration I was part of with the members of my core collaboration group and the class at large. I chose to use WordPress as the platform for my ePortfolio and there was quite the learning curve to using the platform. I had to do lots of my own research into the editing tools in WordPress, and some experimentation, in order to create a site that looked and functioned the way I wanted it to.
Throughout the process I was in contact with my ADL Collaboration Crew (Rebecca Rodgers and Shay McDonald). We met weekly via Zoom to discuss our progress, ask questions, share ideas, and provide each other with support and feedforward. We also communicated regularly via Facebook Messenger. In our Facebook Messenger thread we shared links to our ePortfolios in progress. Based on peer and instructor feedforward during weekly course meetings, I have revised and adjusted many aspects of my ePortfolio. I just edited a page last night and noticed that it was my 26th revision on that page.
EDLD 5303 Supporting Contributions
In addition to attending (or watching) all weekly course meetings and participating in the discussions there, I completed all readings, videos and additional resources in the course. While I did contribute to all course discussions in Blackboard, I think that I could have spent more time formulating some of my discussion responses, adding research and citations. Most of my course discussion postings and responses were simply my own thoughts and reflections on the resources and discussion questions. That is one area I would like to improve. All assignments were completed according to the deadlines outlined in the course modules.
EDLD 5305 Key Contributions
The final score for the EDLD 5305 course was determined in the same manner. I really pushed myself in this course to not only conceptualize my innovation plan, but also to dive into the academic writing required for components of the plan. I spent time researching the academic writing formats required and learning about APA style citations. I looked at many examples of other innovation plans that were shared for reference. I completed all the readings, videos and many of the additional resources provided in the course modules and on Dr. H’s site. I am proud of the work that I produced in this course.
My innovation plan, learning, and academic writing would not have attained the same quality without the support and feedforward of my ADL Collaboration Crew (Eleanor Wilson, Chantilly Sweet, Rebecca Rodgers and Shay McDonald) and my instructor. I was able to share the different components of my innovation plan with my peers and received helpful advice and feedforward via Zoom meetings and our Facebook Messenger group. I adjusted my proposal, outline, literature review and honed my video ideas after collaborative discussions and viewing comments on my documents. I also provided feedforward to my peers in both my Collaboration Crew and in the course forums in Blackboard. I believe I was able to be a helpful contributor to my peers.
EDLD 5305 Supporting Contributions
I participated fully in the class meetings and course discussions, which provided me with new insights into the learning topics and assignments. Within my ADL Collaboration Crew we shared leadership by taking turns hosting weekly Zoom meetings and sharing various course information with one another. In this course, I feel I could have gone deeper into my discussion responses to include additional resources and citations. In future courses, I will be working on improving in this area. I feel I was able to make good connections with the learning by participating in the course discussions, although I would like to structure my time in the future to be able to read all responses and replies to engage more fully with all of my peers.
Please see the following screenshots as specific evidence of the above scores.
