EDLD 5304 – Leading Organizational Change
Self-Assessment Score – 91
This course has been eye opening and extremely relevant to my current role. About six months ago, just after I began the ADL program, I transitioned into a new role within my organization. While still working within the education world, I am now also more involved in the business side of things. The concepts taught about leading organizational change helped me to have more influence and think differently about how I approach peer and business interactions within my role as an Education Specialist. It was also fascinating to make connections between the four disciplines of execution and the EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) model that my organization currently uses.
I am a social person and very much enjoy working with others and collaboratively learning. This term was an oddity in that I did not have as much connection with my peers in the course. My main “collaboration crew” went our separate ways as our courses varied this term. For this course my collaboration partner was Chantilly Sweet. We had some good discussions about the concepts in the course, shared our work with one another, and provided feedforward for assignments.
I completed all the required readings, videos and additional resources. I fully participated in the class discussions by posting thoughtful and researched responses to the discussion questions and responding to my classmates in order to further the conversation and deepen learning. One of the things I was working on this term was making sure that I participated in the discussions in a timely manner. I was able to mostly stick to a schedule of posting my initial response within the week of that content. I was also able to return to the discussions multiple times to stay current on the conversations and continue to respond to others’ postings.
I completed all of the assignments in the course according to their deadlines. I also was able to attend or watch the synchronous class meetings. Again, this term was an oddity in that there were multiple weeks where we did not meet live due to the instructor’s schedule. While it was a little bit easier to just watch a recording, I missed the connection with my peers. Live discussion is always more interesting than the discussion board postings that happen over a drawn out period of time.
I am feeling excited that I am officially halfway through the ADL program! I love how each course builds it’s content throughout the term and is always focused around our individual innovation plans. I think that I have figured out a good time-management strategy to balance school with my full time job and my family of six. One thing that I would like to improve next term is finding more ways to collaborate and connect with other students. I would love to find a few people who are planning on taking their remaining courses on the same schedule as me. Having a group of people who are working through the same challenges to lean on is so helpful to my personal well-being and my learning.
