EDLD 5313 Contribution to Learning
Assessing my own learning is always a bit of a challenge as I think about my personal learning efforts and contributions to my learning community because there is always room for growth. However, I believe that I put significant effort into this course and deepened my learning in many ways. I give myself a score of 94/100 for my Contribution to Learning and Learning Community in EDLD 5313.
This term I finally felt more organized in my time and assignment management. This was my favorite course so far for a few reasons. I enjoyed this course because the content was engaging and applicable to my current work. Learning more about learning theories was fascinating. Reflecting on how I learn best and which learning theories I align with in my instructional practices was also eye-opening. Being aware of these will help me incorporate the theories that will lead to the best outcomes for my learners. I appreciated the structure that the 3-column table and UbD template provided. Course design was new to me, but it is something I will need to have the ability to do in order for my innovation plan to be successful, so I felt very motivated to understand it well.
I was able to contribute to my learning community by continuing to work with my “collaboration crew” which includes Shay McDonald, Rebecca Rodgers, and Chantilly Sweet. This may be our last term to fully collaborate as we will be in different classes next term. They have been such a great support for me! We communicate primarily via Facebook messenger. We share our assignments and give each other feedforward. We also use our group as a sounding board for ideas, venting, questions, and general life cheerleading. I was able to expand my collaboration this term by connecting one-on-one with Catherine Duplisea and Angela King. I specifically connected with these additional peers because our innovation plans are similar and we are working with adult learners. It was great to talk with them about how the concepts we are learning apply to our audience.
I was fully invested in the course and completed all the videos, readings, and read most of the supportive resources. I actively participated in all course discussions in a timely manner. One of my goals was to improve the depth of my posts and I was able to do that by setting aside time in my week to formulate my posts. I also responded to my peers’ posts and contributed to the ongoing conversations on each topic. I was able to attend or watch all synchronous class meetings, which I loved. The live discussions were engaging and helped me to feel more connected to my peers. Dr. G did a stellar job fostering a good rapport with the group, which allowed us to feel comfortable sharing our thoughts and questions, thereby deepening our understanding.
Last term I set a goal to post more often on my site about the things happening in my professional life. I was unable to meet this goal due to family issues that took more of my time than usual. I was only able to post the course assignments. I will prioritize giving more attention to posting about my own connections and interests going forward. As I continued to understand and develop my own growth mindset, I found this graphic that really resonated with me as a student. I would like to come back to this graphic as I prepare each of my assignments to ensure I am taking an active role in my learning and understanding. I am nearing the halfway point of the program. I am pleased to see how much I have learned at this point and excited about how much more growth is in front of me.
